We recommend a regular maintenance program (usually every 18 to 22 months) so your drains and sewer pipes flow freely. But if your situation is beyond that point and you are experiencing signs something is clogging your pipes, Gold Star can schedule service at your convenience or arrive the same day if it is an emergency because we are always available day and night.
Plumbing Cleanouts 101
Are the terms “plumbing cleanouts” and “sewer line cleanouts” noun phrases or verb phrases? Well, they are both and for good reason. The plumbing cleanout is a pipe with a screw-off cap that provides access to a main drain and its branches so they can be unclogged or “cleaned out” with a snake or auger. Likewise, a sewer line cleanout is a capped pipe that allows access to your sewer pipe so it can be “cleaned out” of whatever is clogging the line, perhaps with state-of-the-art “hydro jetting.” In addition, plumbing cleanouts provide entry points for a video camera to reveal what’s clogging your drains or sewer. Gold Star boasts plumbers who are experts at utilizing sewer video cameras.
It’s important to know where your plumbing and/or sewer line cleanouts are located in your house. It can save your plumber valuable time during an emergency call and possibly save you thousands of dollars in water damage. Plumbing cleanouts are usually inside your house so they don’t freeze in the winter. However, older homes may not be equipped with cleanouts. If you’re not sure, Gold Star’s friendly staff is more than willing to make a house call and check for your plumbing cleanout locations We can also recommend where they should be inserted if your home is without this important piece of piping.
Plumbing Cleaning Cause & Effect
Let’s play plumbing cleaning connect the dots. If you know what can cause blocked drainpipes and sewer lines, then you can eliminate or drastically reduce the effects.
- If your sewer lines pass near tree roots, there’s a great chance the roots have penetrated the joints of your pipes and continue to grow inside the pipe. Gold Star can clear your lines with an auger that is fitted with cutting blades. We highly recommend regular plumbing cleaning maintenance to keep things flowing safely from your home.
- A lot of different fluids pass through our drains and out through our sewer line. Sludge builds up over time (grease is a main culprit) and narrows the diameter of the pipes so even small debris can create a large backup. Hydro jetting can blast these bad boys into smithereens!
- For whatever reason, sometimes soil sinks under your sewer line and the pipe becomes bellied or sagging. Over time, wastewater leaves behind debris in this part of the pipe and causes it to clog. Using your sewer line cleanout, we can insert our video camera to diagnose and solve the problem.
